The return of Worlds, the growth of WNO, and the emergence of a new generation of champion grapplers– just a handful of the high points of a rollercoaster 12-month period that rarely took its foot off the gas pedal. Of course, there were also less positive happenings; confrontations, team splits, and more.

The year-long qualification process for the 2022 ADCC World Championships is one of the most fascinating things in jiu-jitsu. I love watching the divisions take shape as Trials winners earn their spot at the best-known no-gi tournament in the world, and the names of those invited slowly get revealed.

A few days from now 2021 will be two-thirds complete. The final four months of the year are crammed with both gi and no-gi grappling events and will no doubt bring us countless contenders for the FloGrappling end of year awards. Recently, we published an article about Dillon Danis watching a viral video of a Baltimore teenager getting beaten up by several students in his school's bathroom. Danis was bullied himself as a child and felt the need to reach out to help. Dillon said if the victim was interested in training, he would happily pay for his jiu-jitsu membership. The bullying victim accepted Dillon's offer, and today this photo was posted of the kid's first day on the mat. Danis had this to say about the victim joining;

This past week, Dillon Danis came across this heartbreaking video of a teenager being jumped by several other students inside a school bathroom. Dillon reached out to the victim and offered to pay for a jiu-jitsu membership at his nearest BJJ academy.

We are less than a week out from the 2019 ADCC World Championships. The ‘Olympics of Grappling” is almost upon us and fans, athletes, and most certainly the FloGrappling team are speculating what the brackets might end up looking like. We unearthed some unusual training footage of BJJ-MMA crossover athlete Dillon Danis. Filmed in 2016, it shows him training in Brazil in a very unusual gi. 

Although Ben Askren is officially retired from MMA, he sure does find himself getting called out quite often. Over the weekend, the former Bellator welterweight champion was once again mentioned as a desired opponent—this time by the promotion's newest undefeated star, Dillon Danis.

The MMA debut of Dillon Danis has come and gone! The grappling superstar now improves to 1-0 inside the Bellator cage after he submitted Kyle Walker just two minutes into the first round.
