We unearthed some unusual training footage of BJJ-MMA crossover athlete Dillon Danis. Filmed in 2016, it shows him training in Brazil in a very unusual gi.
Danis was in RIo to compete at the 2016 Copa Podio Lightweight Grand Prix. One of his first major tournaments as a black belt, he fought the likes of Leandro Lo, Patrick Gaudio, Edwin Najmi and Diego Borges.
Usually seen wearing nothing but Shoyoroll, the red and yellow gi was in fact a loaner gi that he borrowed to train in. Danis, along with Viking Tommy Langaker, was visiting Akxe Jiu-Jitsu in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro to sweat out a few pounds before the tournament.
Danis went on to lose in the third place match when he dislocated his elbow defending a takedown against Diego Borges.
