Day two of the 2023 IBJJF World Championships has concluded and champions have been crowned in nearly every colored belt divisions for male and female athletes. On Friday, juvenile athletes, blue and brown belt women, and purple belt men competed, with a standout performances from double gold medalist brown belt Kauane Ramos da Silva standing as the most impressive feat of the day.

There are only 10 athletes in 2023 who have accomplished the ultra-difficult task of winning the IBJJF Europeans, Pans, and Brasileiros, with a chance to win a world championship in just a few days. The first day of black belt competition at the 2023 IBJJF European Championships has come to a close, meaning that the absolute finals, as well as the women's finals and the men's quarterfinals are set.

Giovanna came in as the #3 ranked competitor in her Brown Belt Heavyweight division, and submitted her way to the Gold medal. In the Open Class Brown Belt division she had a near perfect submission rate, and secured the Gold medal in that division as well. Here is a match-by-match breakdown of both divisions:

Uanderson Ferreira stole the day at Euros, taking double gold with six submissions in eight victories. The Carlson Gracie standout cleared through the medium-heavyweight division and the open class. The final of the absolute, was the match everyone was hoping for, Ferreira vs Rayron Gracie. In a closely contested bout which included a lot of stand-up exchanges, Uanderson edged out the win in a last minute flurry of back attacks.

There are a bunch of names that can make a significant impact in the brown belt women's absolute division, but there are three women that really stand-out.

Coming in as the #1 ranked Brown Belt Medium-Heavyweight, representing Carlson Gracie Team, Uanderson Ferreira had no problems showing why he was the highest ranked competitor in the division. With 34 competitors registered, the Featherweight division was the second-largest brown belt division at the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championships. Art Of Jiu-Jitsu’s Zach Kaina worked his way through the division with five matches showing both his tenacity and technical prowess.

Before the black belts take the mats at the Walter Pyramid, droves of blue, purple, and brown belts will have their opportunity to try and earn an IBJJF World Championship in the junior categories.

The IBJJF Pan Championships is underway, and over the first few days, hundreds of aspiring grapplers will try to prove that they are the next generation of world class talent. Any of the purple and brown belts could send that point home with an impressive showing of dominant jiu-jitsu at Pans, but there are a few who have already earned our attention.

Three free preliminary matches will start the show on Friday, January 21 for WNO: Craig Jones vs Pedro Marinho.  Those matches will be streamed for free on YouTube and Facebook.
