Day two of the 2023 IBJJF World Championships has concluded and champions have been crowned in nearly every colored belt divisions for male and female athletes. On Friday, juvenile athletes, blue and brown belt women, and purple belt men competed, with a standout performances from double gold medalist brown belt Kauane Ramos da Silva standing as the most impressive feat of the day.

The purple belts will share the mats with the black belts at Worlds on Saturday, June 3. Here are the purple belts to tune into in between all of the black belt action.

Training for just over three years at Unity Jiu-Jitsu under the inimitable Murilo Santana, Laura Kolm already has a laundry list of accomplishments on her resume. A blue belt world champion, a European champion, and Pans champion, Kolm has build a game around the use of sleeve control through variations of lasso, spider guard, and collar-sleeve that makes her a nightmare for her opposition.

Takeshiro Tanino, Atos' teenager called 'Samurai' won the purple belt open class at the 2023 IBJJF Europeans today, showing off his tremendous takedowns, passing, and wrestle up sweeps.Tanino had taken third in the medium heavyweight division, falling to Alliance Danylo Wruck, but came back in the absolute, outscoring affiliate teammate Natã Tenca of Almeida BJJ.

Cole Abate of AOJ came in as the #2 ranked Men's Lightweight Purple Belt and had a near perfect submission rate taking Gold in the division. In four out of his six matches, Cole was able to control his opponent's back and utilize their collars to submit. Before the black belts take the mats at the Walter Pyramid, droves of blue, purple, and brown belts will have their opportunity to try and earn an IBJJF World Championship in the junior categories.

The IBJJF Pan Championships is underway, and over the first few days, hundreds of aspiring grapplers will try to prove that they are the next generation of world class talent. Any of the purple and brown belts could send that point home with an impressive showing of dominant jiu-jitsu at Pans, but there are a few who have already earned our attention.

The female purple belts took the mats at day 3 of the IBJJF European Championships, and the home crowd was out in full effect. Four of today’s weight class champions were European nationals, and two of them made it to the open class final.

Day two of the 2022 IBJJF European Championships saw the purple belts take the mats. GF Team’s Pedro Rubim won double gold, winning eight matches and hitting three submissions to claim the medium heavyweight and absolute division titles.

Day one of the IBJJF World Championships was filled with the action, submissions and incredible stories expected of an event of this caliber. Day two is sure to deliver as well, as the male purple and brown belts will take their place on the mats in search of the most coveted title in jiu-jitsu. With hundreds of competitors in search of just a few medals, we're guaranteed  thrilling action throughout the day.

The winner of the heavyweight bracket at the Royal II Invitational was a newly-promoted brown belt, coming off his third world title at purple belt (2016 weight and absolute, 2017 weight) and #1 in the world in the IBJJF rankings. Victor Hugo is another 20-year-old with a star future ahead of him.

Just when we thought things couldn't get more dramatic at Worlds, a lightweight was crowned champion of the absolute (open weight) division -- beating THREE ultra heavyweights along the way! 

Day two of the 2017 IBJJF World Championships delivered plenty of explosive action in the men's purple belt divisions. 

Atos purple belt Kaynan Duarte continues to impress by claiming double gold (weight and absolute) at the IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Irvine, California.
