It’s nearly impossible to predict how many times Gordon Ryan — or Philip Rowe, for that matter — may achieve a submission in this match. This match format has never been done before, and with no reward for victory, it’s difficult to anticipate how Gordon will approach the match. Will he give up positions or submissions? Or will he simply try to submit Rowe as many times as he can in 15 minutes? With so many factors up in the air, consider any bet on this match an utter dart throw.
Beatriz Mesquita -185 vs Luiza Monteiro +150 | 135 lb title fight | 15 min
Over 10min -205
Under 10min +175
Goes to Decision -175
Does not Go to Decision +135
Mesquita by Submission +200
Mesquita by Decision +145
Monteiro by Submission +250
Monteiro by Decision +300
Beatriz Mesquita is the favorite in this matchup. She’s one of the most accomplished female no-gi competitors of all time, and stands to add another title to her mantle. Luiza Monteiro is nearly equally decorated, but may meet her match in Mesquita. Trust the oddsmakers here, and take Mesquita straight up: a $100 bet would pay out $54.
Ffion Davies -130 vs Nathalie Ribeiro +100 | 125 lb title fight | 15 min
Over 10min -150
Under 10min +115
Goes to Decision -110
Does not Go to Decision +145
Davies by Submission +275
Davies by Decision +175
Ribeiro by Submission +200
Ribeiro by Decision +300
The oddsmakers have this match going to decision, but both Nathalie Ribeiro and Ffion Davies are natural finishers. Betters could take advantage of this by taking this match to end by referee stoppage, where the potential profit is $145 on a $100 bet. For those willing to place money on a particular athlete, the payout is even greater: $200 for Ribeiro of $275 for Davies.
Levi Jones-Leary -205 vs Oliver Taza +175 | 170 lbs | 15 min
Over 10min -250
Under 10min +210
Goes to Decision -200
Does not Go to Decision +160
Jones-Leary by Submission +250
Jones-Leary by Decision -105
Taza by Submission +275
Taza by Decision +400
It’s somewhat surprising to see Levi Jones-Leary as the favorite in this match, given that he has only had one no-gi match in his black belt career, and that was just 10 days before this event. Oliver Taza is 2-1 on the WNO stage, giving him 45 minutes more of experience under the WNO ruleset, aside from his years of exclusively no-gi training and competition experience.
Taza seems a safe bet straight up: $175 profit on a successful $100 bet. He’s had several deep attacks, but each of his three previous matches have gone to decision. Those who will lean on that could see a huge profit margin in taking Taza by decision, where he’s +400.
Don’t count Jones-Leary out. He could use his berimbolo techniques to counter Taza’s A-game leg locks. But with money on the line, it would seem safe to go with Taza.
Mikey Musumeci -800 vs Richard Alarcon +525 | 135 lb title fight | 15 min
Over 10min +150
Under 10min -185
Goes to Decision +170
Does not Go to Decision -205
Musumeci by Submission -150
Musumeci by Decision +250
Alarcon by Submission +800
Alarcon by Decision +700
Mikey Musumeci is a huge favorite here. But at -800, a straight up bet for Musumeci is nearly untouchable. Musumeci will be looking for a submission, eager to redeem his last performance on the WNO mats. But Alarcon is elusive, and his wrestling style may give Musumeci some trouble in the early phase of the match.
We’ve seen that Mikey can end things quickly. He has one of the fastest heel hook victories in WNO history. But given Alarcon’s style, it may make sense to take the over 10 minute bet, which offers a payout of $150 on a $100 bet. Otherwise, take Musumeci by decision, where $100 could win you $67.
Jacob Couch -225 vs Hunter Colvin +185 | 205 lbs | 15 min
Over 10min +105
Under 10min -140
Goes to Decision +175
Does not go Go to Decision -210
Couch by Submission +125
Couch by Decision +200
Colvin by Submission +280
Colvin by Decision +350
Jacob Couch is on a hot streak, submitting Roberto Jimenez at the WNO Championship and collecting three more quick submissions in his run to his brown belt No-Gi World title. The oddsmakers have him as the favorite, but don’t sleep on Hunter Colvin. Colvin has a pile of submission victories to his name, and could pose problems for Couch.
This one is likely to end in submission, and the under 10 minute selection may be the best available bet. At -140, the payout is $71 on a $100 bet. But for those putting their money on the Pedigo Submission Fighting standout, the payout is much higher: $200 to win by submission for the same $100.
Bri Robertson -185 vs Brianna Ste-Marie +150 | 125 lbs | 15 min
Over 10min +100
Under 10min -135
Goes to Decision +165
Does not Go to Decision -200
Robertson Submission +150
Robertson by Decision +250
Ste-Marie by Submission +275
Ste-Marie by Decision +300
Both of these women are submission hunters, and will likely get right to their attack games. Bri Robertson has demonstrated her merit as a leg locker and a back attacker, while Brianna Ste-Marie is better known for her upper body attacks, especially her arm locks. The oddsmakers predict that this one will end in a quick submission, and perhaps the best bet to take here is the under 10 minutes, where the return on a successful $100 bet is $74.
Damien Anderson -175 vs Estevan Martinez +140 | 145 lbs | 15 min
Over 10min -400
Under 10min +325
Goes to Decision -275
Does not Go to Decision +220
Anderson Submission +200
Anderson by Decision +150
Martinez by Submission +350
Martinez by Decision +220
Estevan Martinez will be undersized in this matchup, but that shouldn’t be much of a hindrance for him. Martinez frequently enters absolute divisions in gi and no-gi competition alike, despite competing at roosterweight. Martinez rarely loses via submission and has a great counter attack game. That said, Damien Anderson has submitted a few of the top guys in his weight category already, and has demonstrated the pace required to keep up with Martinez. Expect this match to be a 15-minute scramble; but it’s a longshot that this one will end by submission.
With that in mind, the best bet is to take this match going to submission at -275. That would earn $36 on a $100 bet. But for betters who are willing to pick a winner, the odds are much better: +150 if it goes Anderson’s way, and +220 if Martinez takes it.
