The finals are now set for the WNO Championship. Day one featured 30 matches, several jaw dropping submissions, a few incredible upsets, and a handful of WNO records.

Here are the finals, which begin on Sunday, September 26 at 8 p.m. ET:

  • Kaynan Duarte vs Tim Spriggs | Men’s Heavyweight

  • Rafaela Guedes vs Kendall Reusing | Women’s Heavyweight

  • Tye Ruotolo vs Mica Galvao | Men’s Middleweight

  • Mayssa Bastos vs Grace Gundrum | Women’s Strawweight

  • Kade Ruotolo vs Gabriel Sousa | Men’s Lightweight

Upsets:

  • Amanda Leve took Gabi Garcia’s back twice, and had two deep rear naked chokes, solidifying a clear victory over the heavyweight favorite in the opening round. (Watch here)

  • Gabriel Sousa passed Mikey Musumeci’s guard in their opening round match. As if that weren’t challenging enough, Sousa submitted the lightweight favorite with a north-south choke. (Watch here)

  • Last-minute fill-in Jacob Couch submitted the middleweight favorite, Roberto Jimenez, with a heel hook in less than two minutes. (watch here)

  • The 16-year old AOJ prodigy, Cole Abate, defeated Geo Martinez, tearing Martinez’ knee early in the match before winning by decision. (Watch here)

WNO Records:

  • Grace Gundrum hit the first twister in WNO history, submitting Jessa Khan in the semifinals. It was the submission of the night. (Watch here)

  • Tye Ruotolo and Kade Ruotolo are now tied for the most wins in WNO history (5), surpassing Gordon Ryan (4) and Craig Jones (4). Mica Galvao also collected his fourth WNO victory, and is now tied for third.

  • Orlando Sanchez became the first competitor to be disqualified in WNO. He was issued an immediate DQ for slamming out of a submission versus Tex Johnson. (Watch here)

  • Tye Ruotolo set the record for submission closest to the final bell, finishing Dante Leon with just ten seconds remaining on the clock. (Watch here)

Stats & Facts:

  • Eleven of the 30 day 1 matches ended in submission. Four of them came from the men’s lightweight division. Four more came from the men’s middleweight division.

  • One match ended in disqualification, while another ended in injury.

  • BUBS Naturals, who are sponsoring the WNO submission bonus, paid out $13,000 in rewards on day 1.

  • Of the 17 decision victories, 15 were unanimous.

  • All four athletes who represented Atos at the WNO Championship made it to the finals.

  • Average age of competitors: 25
