Matheus Diniz Steps Out Of Comfort Zone For Sub-Only Match At GrappleFest 2
Matheus Diniz is anxious to step on the mats with Craig Jones this weekend and prove that he can hang with the best in any rule set.
While most of his career accomplishments have come in the form of points tournaments, Matheus Diniz is old-school at heart. He's the kind of fighter that embraces the "anytime, anywhere" mindset.
That's exactly what Matheus is doing for his upcoming super-fight with Craig Jones at GrappleFest 2. On September 15 he'll be stepping into a new country for a match in a submission-only ruleset that oddsmakers would tell you favors the Australian Craig Jones.
Somehow, Diniz isn't fazed.
"I have all the respect for Craig. He's a really nice guy. I think it's going to be an awesome match. It's 20 minutes sub-only I'm really excited for this," Matheus Diniz told FloGrappling
Many expected these two elite grapplers to meet at KASAI Pro 2 back in March. Both men sat on opposite side of the round robin bracket and expected a finals clash. However, Atos' Mike Perez played spoiler and knocked Craig Jones out of the final. Diniz went on to win the bracket and become the inaugural KASAI Pro Middleweight Champion.
And while Craig came up with a spectacular finish over Richie Martinez to earn the third-place medal, many wondered what would've transpired had those two met.
The impressive performance at KASAI established Matheus as top of the food chain whether it's gi or no-gi, sub-only, or points. Matheus Diniz can do it all.
And if you're worried about a repeat of Craig Jones vs Rousimar Palhares, know that Diniz is always willing to bring the fight.
"I'm ready. I don't stop in the middle you know. I move forward way more!"
