Roberto Jimenez Lands 2 Submissions In Polaris Middleweight GP
Jimenez collected the $20,000 prize, submitting Hunter Colvin and Jed Hue in Southampton, UK. Ash Williams defeated Carlos Condit via sub in a superfight.
Roberto Jimenez won the Polaris 22 Middleweight Grand Prix on Saturday Nov. 5, submitting two of three opponents in the eight-man bracket.
Jimenez earned the $20k prize with his scramble-heavy, forward Jiu-Jitsu.
The eight man Polaris GP for the 185 lb title included four ADCC veterans, including European trials medalists Matheus Szczeciski, Oliver Taza and Owen Livesey.
Jimenez defeated Shane Fishman by points and Hunter Colvin by triangle, leading to the finals, where he submitted local favorite Jed Hue via katagatame.
Hue made it to the finals by beating 10th Planet's Alan Sanchez & New Wave's Oliver Taza by points.
In the co-main event, Welsh grappler and Polaris three-division champ, Ash Williams submitted UFC legend Carlos Condit with an inside heel hook. This win has secured Williams a match against UFC Bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling in 2023.
