Nicky Rod Becomes The First To Defeat Kyle Boehm In EBI Rules At EBI 20
In one of his most impressive performances in 2022, Nick Rodriguez hit two submission in regulation and two more in overtime.
One of the premiere shows in submission grappling, the Eddie Bravo Invitational returned on October 23 for EBI 20 in El Paso, Texas. This time the main event was an absolute tournament, including ADCC champions, ADCC medallists and IBJJF World Champions. Some of the biggest draws in the 16-man bracket were Giancarlo Bodoni, Nick Rodriguez, Luke Griffith, Kyle Boehm & Roosevelt Sousa.
B-Team's Nicky Rod to become the new EBI absolute champion, with 2 submissions in regulation and 2 in overtime.
He first took out Ezequiel Zurita with a side triangle choke in regulation. In his second match Rodriguez faced the breakout from South Africa, Luke Griffith, of New Wave. Rodriguez took Griffith to overtime, where he finished with an armbar.
The B-Team representative followed up with a triangle choke in regulation over Austin Baker, who lost in his opening round to Giancarlo Bodoni via submission, but was allowed to advance after Bodoi withdrew due to injury.
In his final match, Rodriguez faced Kyle Boehm, who had never previously been defeated in an EBI-format match. Boehm withstood Rodriguez top control game after conceding multiple guard passes and forced an overtime, where Rodriguez secured a rear naked choke.
