The IBJJF returns Dec 5-6 for the 2020 American Nationals, a two-day event which will include gi and no-gi tournaments.
Several key competitors are registered for the tournament, including many athletes who have made the most of the COVID season.
Ronaldo Junior has been unbeaten in IBJJF competition since the federation returned from its hiatus in September. In that time, Ronaldo has caught nine submissions in his 20 victories. He’ll look to continue on his hot streak this weekend, and stands to win four golds if, as usual, he enters the absolute division. Ronaldo will be in at middleweight in the gi, and at medium-heavy in the no-gi tournament.

Kennedy Maciel will also be pursuing medals in both gi and no-gi divisions at featherweight. Maciel will be the favorite in the no-gi bracket, but the no. 1 seed will belong to his teammate, Isaac Doederlein, in the gi division. Doederlein could have an opportunity for redemption against Richar Nogueira. Doederlein was up by advantages against Nogueira at the Houston open in November, but ended up losing due to a post-match penalty.
Among the featherweights, Josh Cisneros could continue to make waves. Just a few weeks after earning his black belt, Cisneros etched his spot near the top of the light featherweight rankings, defeating division favorite Paulo Miyao on his way to a Pans title.
Among other key names, Osvaldo “Queixinho” Moizinho will be making his return to the adult divisions as a lightweight. Oliver Taza and David Garmo will return to the middleweight division in the no-gi tournament, where, among others, they could be matched up against John Combs. And Joao Gabriel Rocha is scheduled to make his first IBJJF appearance in more than a year.
The 2020 American National IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championship starts on Dec 5, 2020 and runs until Dec 6, 2020.
