A clash of titans, duel of generations –the circumstances of this match saw two competitors with strong claims for being the GOAT squaring off for the second time – looking for a decisive conclusion after their first fight together ended as a draw.
Fans and athletes alike were split on who was the favorite entering this match: despite his stunning record, Roger hadn’t competed in the gi in over four years, and even that was a one-off. Meanwhile, Buchecha had run through the competition year, after year, after year on the world circuit, undefeated in the gi in over three seasons.
We met with Gracie in London ahead of and this historic bout, where the 10x World Champion had this to say about his opponent:
