Main Card

Gustavo Ogawa(AOJ) vs Jonah Gratt (Unity Jiu-Jitsu) - blue belt light-featherweight

Match opened with a double guard pull battle, each competitor hunting for both ankle locks and crab ride entires - Jonah took an early lead in the advantage department with a solid belly down ankle lock. 

The lead was short-lived though, Ogawa opened up in the passing department racking up the score 18-0 before finishing the fight with an armbar.

Dominic Mejia (Gracie Barr) vs Andrew Tackett (Checkmat) - blue belt featherweight

Andrew tacket opens the match with a quick double leg takedown, earning himself two points.  The pair separated and this time it was Tackett pulling guard, he was able to sweep to secure two more points making the score 4-0. 

The contest turned into a battle of diving back takes and sweeps, Dominic began to chip away at Tackett's lead, tying the match at 6-6.  Tackett managed to come up for the final sweep, taking the match with an 8-6 lead.

Cole Abate (AOJ)  vs Sebastian Oyervidez (Urban Jungle BJJ)  - blue belt roosterweight

Cole Abate turned a double guard pulled into a wild scramble, leaping into a flying triangle in the first exchange of the match.

Lucas Montalvao (GF Team) vs Elder Cruz (Checkmat) - purple heavyweight

This match opened up with a scrappy battle on the feet that saw Lucas Montalvao take an early lead by advantage for a near takedown attempt.  Montalvo then proceeded to pull guard, coming as close as possible to secure a half-guard sweep, only to be denied by Cruz's incredible base, who kept Montalvo to an advantage.

Rico Staton (TLI) vs Robin Bohlin (AOJ) - purple light-featherweight

One of the most hotly anticipated events of the night delivered exactly the kind of action we expected.  Staton capitalized off a double guard pull to come up for one advantage, entering a slick diving legdrag attempt that nearly saw him pass, earning him another advantage. 

A leaping triangle saw 'The Flash' pick up his third advantage and placing Bohlin in the top position.  The flash swept for two points, making the score 2-0, 3adv for the TLI competitor.  

Robin was able to sweep, tying the match on points, but could not make up the advantage deficit, earning the TLI competitor the win.

Rui Alves (Alliance / Dream Art)  vs Jansen Gomes (Checkmat) - purple medium-heavyweight

 A match as tactical as they come, Rui Alves and Jansen Gomes paid a technical match that was determined by a single powerful single-leg sweep from late-replacement Jansen Gomes. 

Result: Jansen Gomes def. Rui Alves 2-0 (Watch Match)

Chad Wesley Smith vs Nsima Inyang - purple ultra-heavyweight

The 'battle of the behemoths' saw over 500lbs of muscle take to the Who's #1 stage, but despite both men being two of the strongest on the planet, Nsima made this fight one-way traffic.  He managed to build a double-digit lead before finishing the matcha via armbar.

Tainan Dalpra (AOJ) vs Mike Khatchikian (Checkmat) - brown middleweight

Tainan Dalpra dominated this match from the opening bell; Dalpra passed Khatchikian's guard and landed directly on the back. Dalpra then methodically worked his into the optimal finishing position, eventually earning the win via bow and arrow choke.

 Dante Cano (Alliance) vs Adam Bradley (Atos) - brown heavyweight

Adam Bradley is one of Atos sleeper killers.  

Bradley demonstrated strong top game throughout the entire match, making use of strong headlock skills back attacks, but Canto is also a crafty competitor who was able to avoid Bradley every securing both hooks.

This match came down to the wire with Bradley take the win by one advantage.

 Meyram Alves (TLI) vs Joshua Cisneros (Cleber Jiu-Jitsu) - brown light-featherweight

WHAT A MATCH.

The first minute was non-stop action Cisneros opening with a flying triangle attack that caught Alves by surprise, nearly earning the finish with a fully locked on Armbar that Alves had to eat before escaping.

The tide turned and Alves return the favor by almost passing Cisneros and securing one hook of a back take while trying to earn a bow and arrow finish.  This time it was Cisneros with the excellent defense skills – the celber jiu-jitsu escaped the choke and the match was reset.

From there the pacing (understandably) slowed, Alves earned two points for a sweep, earning him the win.

Miha Perhavec (Legion Jiu-Jitsu)  vs Conner DeAngelis (Atos) - brown heavyweight'

Conner DeAngelis put on a flawless performance in his match against last-minute replacement  Miha Perhavec, scoring 12 unanswered points before regulation expired. The Atos competitor demonstrated a beautiful SLX guard and heavy pressure passing, dictating the pacing and position of the match throughout.

Jessa Khan vs Vicky Hoang - brown roosterweight

Jessa Khan earned the win by a brutal toehold submission, but it wasn't before Vicky Hoang had the AOJ brown belt in some serous rouble with  deep triangle.  However Jessa is as composed as they come, and she was able to survive the initial onslaught before submitting Hoang with the toehold.

 Lucas Protasio vs Andy Murasaki - brown lightweight

In one of the more controversial matches of the night, Andy Murasaki was awarded the decision victory over Lucas Protasio after an exceptionally close 0-0 match.

Jhonathan Marques vs Tye Ruotolo - purple lightweight

Despite mainly competing in no-gi of late, Tye Ruotolo took a gi matched against one of the top-ranked purple belts in the World in Johnathan Marques and came out on top via decision.  Ruotolo spent a majority of the match looking to pass the incredible guard of MArques, and though he was unsuccessful, the judges deemed that he outworked the Dream ARt Representative and earned the victoy.

Micael Galvao vs Mateus Rodrigues - purple medium-heavyweight

This one has potential Fight Of The Night written all over it. Mateus Rodrigues put the pressure on Galvao Early, but the Dream Art / Alliance competitor showed experienced well beyond his 16 years as he withstood the passing onslaught.  

Galvao managed to turn the tides with a sweep that saw him land with one hook in, the other  leg restricting

Roberto Jimenez vs Keenan Cornelius - black heavyweight

Roberto Jimenez just shocked the world.

After 10 minutes of regulation, the rookie black belt pulled off the victory 6-4, relying on solid wrestling chops and relentless berimbolo attacks which he used to sweep.  Keenan tried to wrap up Roberto With his lapel mastery, but the Alliance black belt was hip the ensnarements and used his excellent hips to avoid getting scored on in the final moments of the match.

A huge statement from Roberto By winning a match against Keenan Conrleous in his very first match at black belt.

Nicholas Meregali vs Victor Hugo - black ultra-heavyweight

It seems the inaugural WNO event is set to be a night of upsets; Victor Hugo imposed his will on the #3 ranked P4P black belt by tying Meregali up with an excellent 50/50 guard and scoring the only two points of the match by coing up for a sweep from that position.

However, that's not to say the rest of the match wasn't interesting. Meregali did his best to attempt and earn those points back, but Hugo's base and pressure were rock solid, leading the Ribeiro Jiu-Jitsu representative  to the victory.
