Victor Hugo vs Nicholas Meregali Is On For Who's #1!
We are proud to announce the main event of Who's # 1: Nicholas Meregali vs Victor Hugo.
We are happy to announce the first of our two main events taking place at Who’s # 1. Two-time black belt IBJJF World champion Nicholas Meregali will square off against 2019 brown belt World open class winner Victor Hugo in a match between two of the top young heavyweights in the game.
Nicholas won his second black belt world title in dominant fashion at the IBJJF World Championships in June when he submitted Mahamed Aly in the super-heavyweight final. Victor Hugo also recently won his first major title at the black belt level when he submitted Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu by kneebar in the open class final at No-Gi Worlds.
These two were both some of the most promising colored belts over the past decade, with Victor winning six world titles at purple and brown belt while Nicholas claimed five. They both won the open class at both the purple and brown belt level.
This match will take place under IBJJF rules, with the exception being that last score will be used as a tiebreaker in the event that the match ends tied on points and advantages. Both athletes have a propensity toward submissions, and it’s likely this match doesn’t go the entire 10 minutes.
Who’s #1 will take place on Saturday, February 8, at the Hangar in Costa Mesa, California. Tickets are available on Flograpplingtix.com and the event will of course be streamed live on FloGrappling.com.
