Gordon Ryan may be the #1 pound-for-pound ranked no-gi athlete today, but a few key names stand in his way of becoming the undisputed GOAT of submission grappling, including Rodolfo Vieira.

The Brazilian grappling legend is a five-time time world champion, ADCC champion, and current UFC fighter. His patented style of passing ushered in a new era of aggression and technical prowess, and he holds wins over some of the most formidable names in our sport, including Buchecha, Bernardo Faria, and Rafael Lovato Jr. among many others.

The matchup is a dream come true for grappling fans as we get to see one of the best to ever do it take on the current king of no-gi jiu-jitsu.

The pair are set to meet at Third Coast Grappling Dec. 7, and will feature Modified IBJJF rules: 

1. First fighter to either score 11 points or earn a submission wins
2. Advantages are NOT used for scoring points
3. To prevent stalling, a yellow card will be issued to either or both competitors.

• If a second yellow card is issued, fighters are required to stand up and restart.
• A third stalling violation results in a red card, requiring the competitor to forfeit 20 percent of their prize money

1. In the event that there is not a winner after regulation time, overtime rules take effect:

• Overtime is a sudden death format. The first competitor to score points or submit their opponent within five minutes wins.
• Overtime is decided by whoever is up on points at the end of regulation. Whoever is ahead will choose top/bottom FULL GUARD or start on the feet
• If no points scored, the referee will decide who was the aggressor and award them the opportunity to pick or defer to the other competitor. 
• If no submission or points scored in five minutes...referees will render a decision based on aggression, going for the finish, and legitimate submission attempts. Fighting to win...not to lose. 
• For no-gi, heel-hooks are permitted for fighters that are brown belts and higher unless otherwise negotiated.
