It’s a busy weekend for Tex Johnson but he started it off with a big win out in Sacramento for Fight 2 Win 97. 

Tex Johnson, who trains at Unity in New York, took on the hometown favorite Eliot Kelly in Sacramento and despite being in enemy territory still came away with his belt. The match itself wasn’t particularly action packed but each grappler tried methodically to impose their game on the the other over the ten minutes.

Right off the bat Tex pulled guard and tried repeatedly to invert and get underneath the imposing Kelly. After a few attempts Tex was able to get fairly close to wrapping up a leg but in the end a submission never materialized. 

The judges awarded Johnson the split decision win in his first super-fight of the weekend. 

The Unity black belt will now fly immediately to Texas for a match against Atos favorite Keenan Cornelius at Third Coast Grappling.

Otherwise the Sacramento jiu-jitsu community showed up big for Fight 2 Win 97 and boasted a number of exciting black belt submissions but none more impressive than CheckMat coach Ricardo Feliciano’s armbar that earned him submission of the night. 

Also of note on the card was Team Yemaso impressive run, including Cassio Paixao's welterweight title victory. Despite the match being stopped briefly for a knee reap violation Cassio took the brown belt gi title home with her after a back and forth match.

It seems Sacramento is one of the best jiu-jitsu towns in America according to Fight 2 Win's Seth Daniels. To the rest of the country, "the bar has been set."
