Gordon Ryan 'Happy But Not Satisfied' With No-Gi World Double Gold

You’d think that Gordon Ryan would be happy after winning World No-Gi double gold and beating two ADCC champions along the way, but the Renzo Gracie Team black belt is not.
While most people would be content with a gold around their neck, Ryan says that he already knew the outcome and that he was aiming for nothing less than a 100% submission rate.
“I’m not happy with winning how I just won. A perfect day for me is submitting everybody. If I don’t get that I feel disappointed in myself.”
In his eight matches Gordon scored four submissions, all on day one. He tapped Evangelos Moumtzis in the opening round of the ultra-heavyweight division and then submitted Khalil Fadlallah, Vegard Randeberg and Jackson Sousa in the absolute.
Ryan defeated Yuri Simoes twice, once via points (11-0) and then again in a 0-0 match with one advantage for Gordon. His match against Patrick Gaudio ended 4-4 but was decided on advantages. The ultra-heavyweight final against Cyborg saw the Brazilian DQ'd for accumulated penalty points.
“For me, it’s not a matter of winning any more, because I know I’m just going to beat everybody and win everything. It’s a matter of getting to a perfect performance where I submit everybody, similar to Roger [Gracie] at ADCC where I would submit everyone for double gold.”
