Tex Johnson won the Heavyweight No-Gi Masters title belt at Fight to Win 91 this evening by beating Tom DeBlass in a 10-minute sub-only match.
To start the match Johnson quickly sat to guard looking to enforce his very dangerous leg attack game from the bottom. DeBlass no stranger to heel hooks, ankle locks and toe holds confidently engaged with his opponent, unfazed by his attempts.
Much of the fight saw the two juggernauts exchanging top and bottom positions with a clear focus on attacking each other’s legs.
At one point, Johnson was able to attack one of DeBlass’ feet which forced the New Jersey native to defend. Although DeBlass readily engaged with his opponent, not shying away from his guard, that attack may have been the deciding factor in the match.
With no submission at the bout’s end, it went to the referees who awarded Unity black belt, Tex Johnson the unanimous decision and ultimately, the belt.
