Roger Gracie and Marcus "Buchecha" Almeida met in Rio de Janeiro in a replay of their 2012 submission-only bout.
The match headlined the inaugural Gracie Pro event, organized by Kyra Gracie and held in one of the venues built for for the 2016 Olympic Games.
The decisive end to the match shocked the jiu-jitsu world. Buchecha was the reigning World champion, and had equalled Roger's record of 10 World titles. While Buchecha was busy besting the best in the world on a regular basis, Gracie had only competed one in the previous five years until that point.
Only July 23, 2017 Gracie's hand was raised in front of an ecstatic Rio de Janeiro crowd. He used his post-match interview to announce his retirement from jiu-jitsu competition.
