Alex Huddleston earned the Masters Black Belt Heavyweight title this evening after beating Gabriel Gonzaga at Fight 2 Win 80 in Boston, MA.
Huddleston quickly brought the match to the ground, jumping guard 30 seconds into the 8-minute bout, and started enforcing his game making use of his opponent’s lapels to attack.
Gonzaga was on the defensive as Huddleston threw his leg over and inverted for a kneebar from guard. This attack ended up in a sweep and both of the fighters were forced to reset in the middle as they nearly drifted off stage.
Huddleston again pulled closed guard and began working with the lapel to sweep his opponent. Gonzaga kept heavy pressure, however, and nearly passed Huddleston’s guard twice before settling into his half guard where the two remained for the rest of the match.
Alex Huddleson was awarded the unanimous decision and the Masters Heavyweight belt to wrap up the evening in Boston.
