AJ Agazarm Submits Veteran Galvao, Calls Out Joe Rogan

A characteristically brash AJ Agazarm scored an impressive submission win in the KASAI Pro superfight with MMA veteran champ Marcos “Loro” Galvao.

The Gracie Barra black belt used a heel hook to submit former Bealltor MMA champ Galvao in their no-gi superfight. Agazarm used his post-match interview with Shawn Williams to publicly call out Joe Rogan AND Eddie Bravo for the MMA commentator and 10th Planet founder’s lack of knowledge of jiu-jitsu.

“I want you guys to take note, be careful of who you're listening on who is the best jiu-jitsu athlete in the world right now. Joe Rogan and Eddie Bravo don’t know jack shit. I can list off a long list of competitors who have been at the top for a very long time.”

Agazarm was referencing a clip from the wildly popular Joe Rogan Experience podcast where the titular host was questioned “Who is the best grappler in the world right now?” by MMA legend Pat Miletich. Rogan answered Gordon Ryan.

Ryan and Agazarm have long butted heads, quite literally. In 2016, Agazarm was blamed for a “flying knee” which opened up a cut on Ryan’s brow just three before an EBI event, costing Ryan possible prize money.

However, Agazarm was likely echoing many opinions in the jiu-jitsu and grappling community, who were surprised by Rogan’s answer, which neglected such figures as Felipe Pena (ADCC absolute champion, with two wins over Gordon Ryan) or current pound-for-pound king Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida, a 10-time IBJJF World champion.
