Jake Shields remains undefeated in Fight To Win competition after defeating Kit Dale this evening at F2W 62 in Oakland, CA.
The American came out early with two jumping guillotine attempts to put him up over the Australian quickly. Much of the match then remained on the feet, with both athletes vying for top position.
At one point near the halfway mark, Kit Dale nearly completed a Fireman’s Carry to bring the match to the ground. The athletic Shields, however, was able to thwart the attack and return swiftly to his feet.
Both men then continued to fight for collar ties and arm drags before Shields sat to the ground with just a minute left on the clock. While Dale was looking for the Darce choke from inside Shield’s half guard, the Danaher student and former Strikeforce champ was able to pull his opponent into a leg attack position.
In the final seconds of the match, Shields attempted a heel hook which earned him the unanimous decision and thus the victory.
Notable Performances
Marvin Castelle, the Imanari rolling black belt out of 10th Planet, also took to the mats this evening and again attempted his signature move right out of the gates. His opponent, Travis Magalit, was ready for the spinning transition, however, and was able to shut down Castelle’s attempts at every turn.
Magalit even attempted his own Imanari roll at one point but eventually found himself inside of Castelle’s rubber guard where he repeatedly slammed the 10th Planet athlete, earning him the ref’s unanimous decision and upset victory.
