The final for the female black belt absolute division at the 2018 IBJJF European Championships has been set, and it’s a replay of 2017. 

Beatriz Mesquita of Gracie Humaita and Tayane Porfirio of Alliance will square off on Sunday January 20, and you can watch it live or on demand on FloGrappling. 

Porfirio, who won the IBJJF “Double Grand Slam” in 2017 by taking double gold in the four major tournaments of Worlds, Pans, European Championships and Brazilian Nationals, had two matches to make it into the finals, beating Carina Curvelo Santi via points and submitting Jessica Flowers with an arm triangle choke from mount. 

Mesquita also had two matches, beating Samantha Cook of Checkmat UK by choke from the back and out-pointing Claudia do Val 4-0 in the semifinal. 

Porfirio and Mesquita met in the final of the European Championships one year ago, with Porfirio winning on points. The victory over Mesquita in Lisbon kick-started her record-setting “Double Grand Slam” performance.
