Two Elite Grapplers Go To War
We knew the main card would be fire from the minute it was announced, and it didn’t fail to impress. The main event featured Strikeforce champion and grappling BEAST Jake Shields vs current UFC fighter and no-gi World Champion Gilbert Burns. True to what was said in their respective interviews, the bout came down to speed vs strength during regulation. Burns was explosive and shot several double-leg takedowns but Shields also seemed to have the answer, threatening with guillotines and arm drags of his own. Burns was just beginning to gain the upper hand in the match when the bell rang to signal the beginning of overtime.
Shields’ experience with the submission-only over time rules was obvious- his escapes were crisp, and he knew how to milk the ride time on Burns like a pro. He ended up taking the victory by fastest escape time after three rounds. An epic main event that truly lived up to the hype.

The Heavyweights Come Out To Play
2x UFC champion Tim Sylvia stepped back into the cage for the first time in a long time to face multiple time no-gi world champion Fabiano Scherner. It was released that Scherner was giving up nearly 80lbs to the 360lb Tim Sylvia, but that didn’t seem to deter him in the least.
The Gracie Barra representative took down Sylvia with relative ease and was in the drivers seat for the rest of the round. He finished the match via wrist lock within regulation. A exceptional performance by Scherner and his second SUG win.

Orchard Bests Agazarm In Tense Overtime Battle
Agazarm managed to stir up the Portland crowd ahead of Submission Underground 6, but Nathan Orchard's nerves remained ice cold. Orchard survived AJ’s aggressive wrestling and top game firing right back with submission attempts of his own, nearly tangling Agazarm up in his signature ‘Dead Orchard’ submission, but the Gracie Barra black belt was able to escape without issue.
When it came time to play the overtime rules, Orchard’s experience showed through- he was able to hold the AJ's back and methodically work and finish the RNC submission.

Vagner Rocha Gives Up 40lbs, Still Dominates
Vagner Rocha gave up nearly 40 pounds in his match against Jesse 'JT Money' Taylor, but that certainly didn’t seem to pose a problem. Rocha took the back early and held the position for nearly 5 minutes, hunting submissions and dominating positionally. Eventually JT escaped attempted to put on some pressure of his own, but Vagner's guard simply could not be passed.
The match went to overtime where Vagner won in the 1st round by escaping first and then hitting a reverse triangle. An impressive performance from the Fight Sports representative.

Reverse Triangle Ends Heated Exchange Between Smith and Mitchell
There was a war of words going between these two MMA veterans- Anthony Smith, younger and faster believed that he could drink beer and eat whatever he liked before the fight, which didn’t exactly sit well with David Mitchell. Though movement was initially going Anthony’s way, Mitchell was able to sink in a sneaky reverse triangle in the dying minutes of the round to secure the victory in regulation.
