Kristina Barlaan is the first-ever Marianas Open Women's pro Champion!
Though the competition was small in numbers, the level of combat was exceptional, with some of the very best female jiu-jitsu athletes competing yesterday in Guam. Talita Alencar- 2017 Black belt world champion, Emma Xiong- 2017 brown belt world champion, Tassia Pimenta- Romulo Barral black belt, and of course, Kristina Barlaan- the 2016 European Champion, were all on hand to throw down for $1,000 and the coveted Marianas Belt.
It was Alencar and Barlaan in the final, and though footage of the match hasn't been released, we can only imagine it was quite the war. Alencar actually bested Barlaan on her way to the world title earlier this year, so a win for Barlaan yesterday must have been that much sweeter. An impressive performance for the Caio Terra black belt.
