Brazilian jiu-jitsu powerhouse GF Team are known for producing aggressive, hungry athletes who will fight to the last breath, and they will send a number of their best competitors to vie for gold at the UAEJJF Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tokyo on July 15.
GF Team will send a number of competitors ranging across various divisions, with the principal names as follows:
MALE / BLUE / ADULT / 94KG
Reda Hamzaoui is a blue belt from France, and was the IBJJF European 2017 medium heavyweight champion. Probably the best blue belt in Europe, Hamzaoui is a dangerous competitor and a strong candidate for gold in his division.
FEMALE / BROWN / BLACK / ADULT / 49KG
Mayssa Bastos is a medal machine, and is the UAEJJF 2017 Abu Dhabi World Pro brown-black belt champion. She'll look to use her trademark tricky guard game to beat her opponents.
FEMALE / BROWN / BLACK / ADULT / 55KG
Thamires Aquino is well-known for her spider guard skills, and there are few black belts in the world who have what it takes to beat this talented 23-year-old.
MALE / BLACK / ADULT / 62KG
Jorge Nakamura is one of GF Team's best lighter weight grapplers, made all the more impressive that this black belt competes in both the able-bodied and the parathlete divisions. Severe nerve damage gives him limited use of his leg, but it hasn't stopped him disputing major tournaments across the world.
MALE / BLACK / ADULT / 85KG
Closed-guard master Jaime Canuto has a tough road ahead of him in the 85kg black belt division, with opponents such as Lucas 'Hulk' and Isaque Bahiense. The GF Team rep will need to use every tool in his arsenal in his hunt for gold.
Cash prizes are also available for the individual athletes, with generous amounts awarded to every competitor who places on the podium.
And of course, don't forget the ranking points for the athletes, essential for competitors looking to represent their country at the 2018 Abu Dhabi World Pro. The top-ranked athlete of the season will win huge cash prizes,
