Isaque Bahiense On Lessons Learned From Training With Roger Gracie
The Alliance black belt was recently training with Roger Gracie and Braulio Estima in London, and took the opportunity to say what he had learned with the legendary world champions.
The 2017-18 season of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Jiu-Jitsu Tour is about to begin. On July 15, the famous fighting city of Tokyo will receive world-class black belts to compete for the big cash prizes on offer at the Tokyo Grand Slam.
Isaque Bahiense, one of the most exciting and explosive competitors of the new generation, has gone up in weight and will fight in the 85kg division.
He'll be right alongside the likes of Lucas Hulk of Atos and Jaime Canuto of GF Team. It's looking like the most dangerous division of the tournament.
"They are extremely tough athletes, so it's going to be good. After the IBJJF Worlds all that pressure has gone. I'm really excited, I'll be able to fight with them and test myself. In fact, now, I'm letting my game flow. I'm training with a more open game, flowing more and testing out new positions. I think now is the time to think more about evolution," says Isaque.
The Alliance black belt was recently training with Roger Gracie and Braulio Estima in London, and took the opportunity to say what he had learned with the legendary world champions.
"It was a great learning experience, the guys tapped me a lot! But I got very observe their point of view of jiu-jitsu. The advice they gave me is to always keep working and training so that things go my way. What I found really cool is their mentality, they always look for the submission, no matter what happens," he says.
After receiving his black belt at the end of 2016, Isaque took a moment to look back and asses his first competition season.
"Life was very intense, I competed and traveled a lot. I gave a lot of seminars. On the one hand, it sure was good. I had some great experiences and learned a lot. What I'm looking to improve now is to focus more on my training. It's eat, sleep and wake up to be champion."
