DJ Jackson Submits John Combs to Win F2W Pro Middleweight Title
Fight To Win Pro 18 just just wrapped up in Denver, and boy, what an event it has been.
This match was 100% Marshall. Opting to pull guard against Bastos, who in the past has been content to fight for a takedown the entire round, Marshall employed a crafty bottom game not typically seen by heavyweights. Marshall methodically worked his way to a half-guard sweep, passed Bastos' guard and finished the fight with A kimura from north-south. Pure jiu-jitsu.
Perhaps the fight of the night, the brown belt middleweight title match between Isiah Wright and Renato Canuto was a blast to watch. Aggressive wrestling, slams, and flying submission attempts - they were all featured. Canuto, an IBJJF world champion, was positionally dominant throughout the bout - he passed Isiah's guard seemingly at will. But he could not maintain that position, AND he did not threaten a single submission. In contrast, Isiah had a nasty heel hook attempt that most mortals would have tapped to, and followed it up with another attacking leg lock sequence, thus earning the victory by Fight To Win Pro's criteria.
Main Event DJ Jackson vs John Combs
DJ Jackson has proven once again that he is a force to be reckoned with. John Combs is no slouch in the wrestling department, but Jackson was able to completely dictate the the pace of the fight on the feet. While it's true that Combs nearly locked up a guillotine before rolling out of bounds, Jackson was in his comfort zone for a majority of the fight. Ultimately, John took a chance on a risky shot and paid the price by landing in a tight guillotine. An overall very entertaining performance and we can't to see both men on the stage again in near future.Co-Main Eliot Marshall vs Bruno Bastos
