Erberth Santos has had to withdraw from Saturday's Rio Grand Slam due to the knee injury that saw him forced out midway through the Copa Podio Heavyweight Grand Prix. 

After injuring his knee during a match with Isaque Bahiense, Santos could not continue in the tournament and has since announced that he was forced to miss a number of of other events he had planned to fight in.

The prolific competitor took to Facebook to announce that he would miss the Rio Grand Slam. 

Guys, I'm sad to say that I will not be able to continue my schedule of the big events. On Nov. 5-6 I would have competed in the BJJ Pro, and on 12-13 I would participate in the Grand Slam. But not everything goes as planned! I spoke with my team and I'm going to recover and return at 100%, and who knows maybe fight in the South Americans.

Santos was the winner of the top-ranked male black belt in the UAEJJF 2015-16 season, an award he achieved via competing in Grand Slam events in Los Angeles, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro, and London. He finished out the year by winning the 94kg division of the World Pro. 

The loss of Santos from the brackets means that the principal names in the 94kg division are Felipe Pena, Xande Ribeiro, and Romulo Barral. 

The way the brackets are set, we may see Pena and Xande face off once again in the finals. They had a barn-burner of a match in Tokyo just this past month with Ribeiro narrowly losing 4-2.
