Mackenzie Dern and Talita Alencar locked horns tonight in the main event of Fight to Win Pro 12, and things got heated.
The lightweight title match saw Dern come out with trademark aggression: she pulled guard early and was immediately hunting for an omoplata. Talita quickly countered by stepping over for a toehold. After a brief scramble Mackenzie was back on top.
That's when things got really interesting.
While they we're both hunting/defending leglocks the duo ignored the referee's commands to stop and let go, and actually spun right off the the elevated Fight To Win Pro stage.
Luckily, neither athlete seemed injured and the fight was able to continue. Talita poured on the pressure for the rest of the match, struggling to make a stack pass work. Mackenzie played a dangerous open guard game, switching between upper and lower body attacks and ultimately dictating the pace of the match.
This earned her the unanimous decision victory.
In summary, Talita was a game challenger who took Mackenzie head on (and right off the mat), but it was Dern's experience and non-stop attacks just that came into play: she had all the answers and was able to control the match.
