Gutemberg Pereira Joins AOJ After Leaving GFTeam
An elite athlete from the adult black belt, Gutemberg joins the Costa Mesa team and increase AOJ's chances to conquer the Worlds Absolute title.
The power shifts of the Jiu-Jitsu competitive scene are getting increasingly intense. The most recent example of such an dramatic shift happened last Friday, Dec. 8, with Gutemberg Pereira announcing his departure from GFTeam.
Pereira confirmed to FloGrappling that he would head to Art of Jiu-Jitsu, a fact that was later corroborated via a joint announcement by Gutemberg himself and the Mendes Brothers on Instagram. Gutemberg flew the GFTeam banner for 12 years and revealed to FloGrappling that his departure had nothing to do with the team's internal affairs, such as the merger with JiuArt.
Now with Gutemberg added to the AOJ roster, we can expect to see a more threatening crusade toward the Worlds black belt absolute division, a title that still eludes the otherwise stacked Mendes' team trophy room, which features gold medals in the weight divisions by Tainan Dalpra, Johnatha Alves, Diego Pato, Thalison Soares, Jessa Khan, Mayssa Bastos, and of course, both Rafael and Guilherme Mendes.
